I like reading that blog from time to time. And the blog "Stuff white poeple do" and the brazilian version "Classe Média Way of Life" as well. Sometimes they get too simplistic. I know they're talking about the "median-people" but I get bored with some generalizations. But they're good blogs. And I keep reading them. =)

Thanks for the hint! I'll chekc the other ones out, too.

Yes, you are right. But then again, it is so exaggerated at times that one cannot take it seriously.

Sometimes I recognize myself (I do love Japan) and other times I recognize traits and elements in other people. I love the post on "Banksy" and "Where The Wild Things Are"! His style is hilarious!

Some of the posts read as if he is describing human beings in general, as if he is an alien writing about other species, this because some of it Europeans (and maybe other cultures) don't identify with.

But it is hilarious, even more so if you have lived in USA for some time. In Washington I remember I was the only white person in the bus, he he, true! I was so shocked! In USA classes are strongly divided, and from what I've seen reinforced to continue as such. Also, there are hard hierarchies concerning the color of your skin, everyone has a place, yellows, black, white, latins, for me it was strange. Mexicans work at building sites, blacks are bus drivers, work at McDonalds, whites live in the suburbs where you cannot go without a car. I wanted to visit a friend, and couldn't because there was no transportation to his house. Someone had to come and pick me. And I mean, I am not talking about the country side, this was Washington dc. And I am not talking about a poor country who is still struggling to gather a transportation network. They said they preferred it this way. Weird, very weird. But interesting to observe.

ecila, you are right. he is like an alien :)

unfortunatelly people like belonging to groups, it makes them feel safer. It is not very often that they dare to step outside of the box.

I didn't explain myself clearly, I was not talking about groups (in the sense of punks or hippies or socker). I was describing racist (or discriminatory) societies. It's because I forgot to mention, I only talked to whites concerning my observations, they were the ones who preferred it like this. I guess when one is part of the comfortable box, then yes, why should one change, yes it is then that it is even harder to dare and step outside. Frustation is what many times makes you want to step outside the box, and confortable boxes don't produce enough frustation. And this works to all kind of boxes in the world.
The lack of transportation kept the others away, see what I mean? The others who don't have money to have a SUV. I have never seen such a division in any other country, although it exists in every human society (I guess), I have never seen the extremes I saw in USA. I do like USA very much, but I did not like these extremes rich-poor, black-white, they have a lot of boxes ;-)

Apart from that it's a country with a great sense of humor (the areas I visited which is a small sample), and that I highly apreciate, I was the whole day laughing :-)

Ecila, I see what you mean. But I also think that he pokes fun at people in general, he pokes fun at the fact that we have to belong to a group. Of course, discrimminatory ones (like you have mentioned), but he often refers to other classes and subcultures of white people as "the wrong kind of white people", as well.

This is why, I think he goes beyond satirizing discrimminatory societies and rather all people. Because they are all slaves of convention and I hardly believe there is anybody who would not find several posts on his blog to relate to :)

Totally agree. I laughed a lot with many of the posts. And now a little secret he he... I think what he describes fits quite often german people lolol more than portuguese. I mean, the crazy amount of alergies (I have never seen so many alergies), the camping with special equipment, the bob marley guys lolol I have met many here ;-)
The moleskine notebooks lolol

So, sometimes I identify with the descripitions, other times I identify with the writer ;-) Very funny!
